Coyote’s Market centers around carefully sourced proteins that honor both the animals and the land.

Meat & Seafood

Partnering with Motley Crew Ranch, we source as much of our meat and seafood from the Central Coast as possible. Every cut comes from small ranches practicing regenerative agriculture, where animals are pasture-raised, humanely treated, and never given hormones or antibiotics.

Our seafood tells a similar story: wild-caught from California waters using sustainable fishing practices, with priority given to Central Coast fisheries whenever possible

Local dry goods & kitchen essentials

From the Santa Ynez Valley to Ojai and along the California coast, we've curated an array of pantry staples and kitchen smallwares from small producers who share our values. Stock your shelves, upgrade your cookware, or discover the perfect hostess gift—everything here reflects the craftsmanship and care of our local food community.

Coyote's knife collection is the one area where we venture beyond our backyard to bring you the finest blades, whether forged by local artisans or renowned makers from Germany to Japan.

We don't want you to eat more meat.

We want you to eat better meat.

About us

Both born and raised in Santa Barbara County, Peter and Caroline Hernandez (née Hummer) are Carpinteria locals who've spent their lives building things—businesses, relationships with farmers and ranchers, and a deep understanding of what it means to source food with intention.

Caroline's path to opening Coyote's winds through farmers markets with her mom, her dad's small business, and eventually her own food truck in San Francisco. That truck evolved into Fogcutter Catering, which San Francisco Magazine named Best Catering Company three years running. Later, working with Outstanding in the Field, she produced culinary events around the world, connecting chefs, winemakers, and farmers in celebration of the land. Every step taught her the same lesson: great food starts from the source.

Peter's education in regenerative agriculture came from a different direction. After co-founding Brothers of Industry—a commercial millwork company that's built-out restaurants and hotels across the Central Coast—he and his family purchased a 400-acre Central Coast cattle ranch in 2020. There, learning from ranching families with generations of experience, Peter discovered what it takes to raise animals with care and steward land for the long haul. The small herd at Hernandez Family Ranch lives that philosophy, and we're proud to sell their beef at Coyote's.

When they aren't in the shop, you'll find them walking their two “coyotes” (Billie & Chauncey) on Padaro Beach, hiking Franklin Trail, grabbing a beer at Brew Lab or a burger at Dang Burger, and cooking meals with ingredients from the Carpinteria Farmers Market.

Opening Coyote's together is their chance to bring everything they've learned full circle—and to give back to the community that's given them so much.
